1. Park in an area suitable for pressure washing
Parking in a wide open area, such as a large driveway or street, is ideal. When you use a pressure washer on your car, there should not be any other cars or objects around that could accidentally get wet or get damaged. There should also be an outlet for plugging in an electric pressure washer.
2. Rinse the car to remove dirt and debris
Before washing your car, you should make sure the windows, doors, hood and trunk are closed to keep the interior from getting wet. Then plug your electric washer into a power source.
You should also make sure the water pressure from the power washer isn't too strong by doing a test spray on the ground. Then, give your car a good pre-wash rinse to spray off all the dirt and debris. You will start by spraying the tires and wheel wells using the 25 degree nozzle.
Next, you'll switch to the 40-degree nozzle to rinse the exterior of the car. You must be at least a foot away from the car when spraying water on it. But you have to move back a bit when painting fragile parts like mirrors, windows, headlights and brake lights.
You should spray water from the top and work your way down. Do not spray directly, but spray down to avoid damaging the paint.
3. Spray the cleaner on the car
Prepare car wash solution by diluting with water. Then pour it into the detergent tank of your pressure washer. And change the nozzle to a soap nozzle.
However, some pressure washers do not have a detergent tank. If not, you can apply car wash soap with a cloth by hand or using a foam gun.
Simply unscrew the cannon from the detergent container, fill the container with car wash soap, screw the cannon back into the container, and snap it into the pressure washer.
You can also adjust the output of soapy water with the fan adjustment, and you can switch the output from water to soap with the soap adjustment.
Once everything is ready, apply car wash soap to the entire vehicle, starting at the bottom, to prevent streaks. You also have to start spraying from a distance of two to three feet.
Then, if need be, you'll work your way up to remove stubborn dirt and bugs. Hold about 6 inches close to the wheel to remove stubborn brake dust, road salt and other grime. Let the soap sit for five minutes, then rinse off.
4. Wipe off stubborn dirt
If the grime on your car isn't too heavy, a pressure washer alone may suffice. But if you find stubborn dirt on it, you need to wipe it off. To do the job more efficiently, use the two-bucket method of soapy water and rinse water.
First, dilute your cleaning solution in a bucket, then apply it to your car with washer mitts, and scrub from the top down. Scrub one section at a time, making sure to remove all grime from the entire surface area of the car. Rinse the scrubbing mitt after each scrubbing of a two-foot by two-foot area.
An easier way to wipe off stubborn dirt is to use a brush attachment. When using it, wash the wheels and wheel arches last so you don't rub any stones or grit on the brush against the surface of the car. Also, be sure to rinse the brush thoroughly after use so it will be clean the next time you use it.
